Inspired by Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, JR's Chronicles series explores how an entire city can be represented through art.
In September 2024, as part of his Chronicles' series, French artist JR and his team engaged closely with residents from seven neighborhoods of Naples: Piazza Sanità, Piazza Dante, Fuorigrotta, Mergellina, San Giovanni a Teduccio, Piazza Cavour, and Borgo di Sant’Antonio. Each participant was invited to express themselves in their own way before being photographed and recording their voice in an audio booth.
The result is Le Cronache di Napoli, a striking photographic mural featuring 606 individuals, offering an intimate window into the social fabric of the city. As JR's first Chronicles project created in Italian, it captures the depth and diversity of Neapolitan identity through personal stories and collective representation.
